I was listening to YouTube videos yesterday while straightening up the garage. A video appeared in my feed from Poke Office, a channel focused on collecting, investing, vending, and other business topics related to Pokémon. In the video, the host discussed obtaining a wholesale card distributor to supply sealed Pokémon products, which can then be sold to customers.
The message I took away from listening to the video is that if you want to find a distributor, you have to grind.
Later in the day, I downloaded a transcript from the episode. The video is approximately 17 minutes in length. During those 17 minutes, the host said the word “grind” or “grinding” a total of 28 times.
What does it mean to grind?
When I think of the word grind or grinding, I think of grabbing my electric grinder, some eye protection, a pair of leather work gloves, and making sparks. Not knowing what that has to do with getting a Pokémon distributor, I decided to do some research.
The first place I looked was a website called Grindr. I thought it was dedicated to men who grind. That turned out to be a huge mistake. I’m pretty sure that website has nothing to do with grinding, per se. Although the website featured mostly men, none of them were wearing eye protection or leather work gloves. In fact, most of the men were only wearing underpants.
That seemed extremely dangerous.
Oh Canada
It was then that I remembered the host of Poke Office lives in Canada. They often use different words for things than we do. For example, call one yard one meter. Americans use the phrase “submarine” to describe a specific type of sandwich.

I’ve heard people use the term “grinder” to describe a submarine sandwich. In retrospect, those people were probably Canadians. That is what the host must have meant. If you want to find a Pokémon distributor to work with you, you need to shower them with submarine sandwiches.
That seems like good advice.
