Baltimore Orioles fire manager Brandon Hyde

The Baltimore Orioles relieved manager Brandon Hyde of his duties. They named third-base coach Tony Mansolino as the “interim” manager.

Interim is a funny word. Every manager in baseball should probably have the word added to their title. Managers usually always end their time with a team by getting fired.

There’s no denying the fact that the Orioles currently suck more than one of those fancy Dyson vacuum cleaners. I’m just not sure if any of the problems with the team are Hyde’s fault. He’s not the one who chose not to acquire quality pitching before the start of the season. That responsibility belongs to General Manager Mike Elias. Speaking of Elias, I’m not even sure Hyde was responsible for most of the decisions that took place during games. I don’t know how much freedom Hyde had. Elias and his analytics department could have been micromanaging the decisions traditionally performed by the manager.

I’m a firm believer that you should not fire someone unless you have someone better to replace them with. Who can Elias hire who is better than Brandon Hyde? Former Yankees great Don Mattingly is up in Toronto serving at the Blue Jays bench coach. He is who I would be pursuing right now.
