Washington Redskins sign Adrian Peterson

The Washington Redskins had a need for a quality running back so they addressed it. They signed a 33-year-old child abusing free agent who hasn’t had a 1,000-yard season since 2015.

From the Washington Post:

The Washington Redskins addressed their running back woes by adding a big-name veteran Monday: seven-time Pro Bowl selection Adrian Peterson. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the 33-year-old’s deal was expected to be for one season.

To be fair, the Redskins haven’t pulled this trick for a while, so I guess they were overdue to sign an aged veteran well past their prime. I think owner Dan Snyder likes to sign big name players. The problem is, he doesn’t seem to have any understanding of how time works. Just because a player was good a few years ago doesn’t mean they are good now.

Dan Snyder is a terrible owner

It’s one of the main reasons the Redskins will never be good again. Their problem starts with the owner and oozes down from there.

The NFL should create a new rule. When a team is sold, the NFL should be able to buy back the team if after 10 years the owner has demonstrated incompetence. The buyback price would be what the new owner originally paid. Owners would then be motived to make the team competitive, including allowing people who know more than them to run things.

Dan Snyder has never done that.

The way it is now, a new owner can run the team into the ground and because of revenue sharing, rake in the money. It’s not fair to the fans. It’s also not fair to the other owners. Then again, teams need other teams to beat. The Redskins serve that purpose.
