Tim Doyle owns Nakatomi Incorporated, a print shop in Austin Texas. He creates nerd-centric art. He also acts as a self-appointed gatekeeper in the medium of comic books. I’m told he spends a lot of time on Twitter telling people what comic books they can and cannot read. I personally don’t know if this is true or not because he blocked me on Twitter. I’ve never had any exchanges with him on Twitter. I believe he blocked me because of the people I follow.
Someone I follow on Twitter posted a screenshot of something Tim tweeted yesterday:
In the above tweet, he claims #ComicsGate is “absolutely” a white supremacist hate movement. By stating that Ethan Van Sciver and Richard C. Meyer champion this supposed white supremacist hate movement, they are white supremacists.
That’s simply not true.
White supremacy is an actual thing. There are people who champion white supremacy. Ethan Van Sciver and Richard C. Meyer are not these people. They neither champaign white supremacy, nor are they white supremacists.
Tim Doyle is using the term “white supremacist” as a synonym for people he does not like. Legally, he’s not allowed to do that. He can’t just make a statement of fact that’s not based on truth, a statement that’s both damaging and prejudicial to the people he’s making it against. To do so means he’s committing libel.
The First Amendment does not protect you from libel
The First Amendment protects your right to free expression and voicing your opinions. It does not protect your right to make up facts about people. You have no such right. That’s what Tim Doyle is doing, making up facts about people he doesn’t like.
I wish Tim Doyle would just knock it off. Ethan Van Sciver and Richard C. Meyer are good people who don’t deserve to be treated this way, to have lies spread about them. Both men have families. I don’t think Tim Doyle will ever stop libeling Van Sciver and Meyer unless he’s forced to stop.
Richard C. Meyer should sue Tim Doyle for libel
Ethan Van Sciver lives in New Jersey, but Richard C. Meyer lives in Austin, Texas, the same city Tim Doyle lives in. I wish Meyer would hire a lawyer and sue Doyle for libel. He could start a GoFundMe to raise money for a lawyer. I would kick in some money. I think a lot of people would. Doyle is a social justice, gatekeeping bully. Maybe if Meyer took Doyle to court and the judge awarded Meyer damages, Doyle might stop lying about people online.
