The gals of Pussy Riot sound like a bunch of jerks

A lot has been made on the Internet lately about three young women, Maria Alekhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, from the Russian punk rock band Pussy Riot. That’s the actual name of the band, Pussy Riot. The before mentioned women were sentenced on Friday to two years in prison after being convicted of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred. The members staged a “protest” in February at the altar of Moscow’s main Russian Orthodox church. They performed a song entitled “Punk Prayer” while wearing colorful ski masks before being dragged out by church security.

Other videos exist showing all sorts of similar protests. In one, a woman goes to a Moscow grocery store and inserts part of a raw chicken into her vagina. She didn’t even pay for it first, she just took it off the unrefrigerated shelf, took it out of the packaging, and placed it someplace raw chicken was never meant to be inserted.

Remind me to never eat chicken in Russia.

I would post a link to the video, but I made a promise to myself when I started blogging that I would never post links to videos showing women inserting raw poultry into their bodily orifices.

Some people are upset that the three members of Pussy Riot received such harsh sentences. Two years is a long time to spend in a Russian prison, yet it’s obvious these women were trying to provoke a reaction and a reaction is what they got. Personally, I don’t feel at all sorry for these women. They go out of their way to annoy people, people who want nothing to do with them or their message, whatever that message is.

I don’t like annoying, obnoxious people.

We in this country send a lot of people to prison for a lot longer than two years for personal use drug crimes. The crimes these people commit only affect themselves, yet they spend years in prison.

The good news for the dozens of Pussy Riot fans who enjoy listening to their music is that the band doesn’t seem to have any shortage of members. The band will go on, more or less.
