One of my favorite parts of AMC’s Mad Men is the closing credits. I enjoy it because of the music that’s played. You never know what you’re going to hear. There was one piece of music I particularly liked, an instrumental from the second season. I didn’t know its name, but I liked it.
It sounded… weird.
Because it was an instrumental, and there were no lyrics, I didn’t know what to google, bing, or type into Ask Jeeves to find it. To make matters worse, I didn’t even remember which episode it was in when I finally attempted to find it. As it turned out, it wasn’t all that hard, mostly because it was an instrumental, and most of the songs played at the end of Mad Men have lyrics.
The song is Telstar and it was performed by The Tornados. An mp3 of Telstar can be purchased on Amazon for only 99 cents. It’s a little bit more on iTunes.
The Tornados were a British band from the 1960s. In 1962, Telstar was the first song from the UK to make it to number one on the US singles chart.
It would not be the last.
