I hate Marvel Collector Corps

The Marvel Collector Corps has made me so mad, that I don’t even want to see the upcoming Ant-Man movie. I feel like taking everything from the first Marvel Collector Corps box and throwing it in a big bucket of AIDS.

I heard back from Marvel Collector Corps “support” concerning my complaint that they changed my credit card twice for the June Ant-Man box, yet never got around to sending it to me.

We do not own our payment portals, and when we looked into your issue with our credit card portal, they were able to identify an issue on their end that initiated the double charge. We have refunded both of your payments and confirmed that your subscription is cancelled per your request.

We do not own our payment portals? I don’t know what this means, and I work for a credit card portal.

Does this mean they’re using another businesses’ credit card processing account, one not connected to Marvel Collector Corps? Credit card companies have rules that all merchants processing cards must adhere to. One of those rules, and it’s a major one, is that a business cannot process credit card payments for another business.

They can place the blame at the feet of their unnamed credit card portal, but the reality is that their credit card portal processes credit cards at their behest. I provided my credit card information to Marvel Collectors Corp, not some mystery credit card portal. Before transactions are submitted final settlement, the merchant, in this case, Marvel Collector Corps, has the ability to review all the transactions in the batch. They chose not to do this. If they had, they would have seen that I was being charged $31.95, just like I had the day before.

They never caught the error. They still wouldn’t know about it if I hadn’t complained about it.

Contrary to what was stated in this email, they did not refund both payments. I filed a chargeback against the duplicate charge and my credit card company almost immediately ruled in my favor. They made me whole on the duplicate transaction, not Marvel Collector Corps. They did refund my original $31.95. Then again, since they failed to actually ship the June box, what choice did they have?

I’m so irritated over this whole fiasco, that a part of me doesn’t even want to see the upcoming Ant-Man movie. I also feel like taking everything from the first Marvel Collector Corps box, the only one I ever received, and throwing it all into a bucket of AIDS.

Since I don’t currently have access to a bucket of AIDS, I guess I’ll hold off on that. I could always do the next best thing to throwing into a bucket of AIDS: I could sell it on eBay.

Marvel Collector Corps charges your credit card when they feel like it

Marvel Collector Corps, the Loot Crate copycat run by Funko, maker of licensed pop culture collectibles, has a lot of problems. I joined their program last April and my first box was shipped to me later that same month. On June 11, I received an email telling me the June box, themed after the upcoming Ant-Man movie, was processing. Then, last week, I began seeing online that people were receiving their June boxes. I still hadn’t received an email saying my box was shipped. I decided to check my credit card statement online to make sure that my card had been charged on June 1st.

According to their website, Marvel Collector Corps charges your credit card on the first business day of the month for that month’s box:



This is pretty clear. They will only charge your card on the first business day of the month.

When I looked at my credit card statement online, I discovered that they hadn’t charged my card on June 1st. They charged it on June 11. Then, for some inexplicable reason, they charged it again on June 12.

I was charged twice for a box they never sent me.

I don’t know what’s going on with Marvel Collector Corps. I canceled my subscription this past weekend. Now I have to file two chargeback disputes with my credit card company for the two bogus purchases they charged my card. If they were going to send me a box in June, they were authorized to charge my card once on June 1, the first business day of the month.

I asked them why they charged my card on June 11 and June 12, but they’ve been too busy to get back to me.

Take my advice and stay away from Marvel Collector Corps, at least until they fire the people running it now and replace them with people more competent, people more like the folks running things over at Loot Crate. These are the last people in the world you want to have access to your credit card. Also, I highly recommend you follow Collector Corps Fail on Twitter.  Lots of good info there.
