The Oakland Raiders traded Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears for a 2019 and 2020 first round draft pick. The Raiders will also get the Bear’s 2019 sixth-round and its 2020 third-round draft pick. I have to wonder though, what’s the point? The chances they’re able to find a player as good as Mack is slim at best. He will be the best player they’ve ever drafted for some time.
Khalil Mack will be the last great player the Raiders have for a long time
Mack was drafted fifth overall in the 2014 draft. The following year he made NFL history by being named first-team All-Pro at both outside linebacker and defensive end. In 2017, he was named Defensive Player of the Year.
The Raiders exercised their fifth-year option on Mack’s contract. It would have paid him $13.846 million this season, but he’s been holding out. He hasn’t attended any of the voluntary workouts, nor did he attend training camp this season. He also didn’t meet with incoming Raiders coach Jon Gruden, but who can blame him for that? I wouldn’t want to speak to Gruden either.
The Oakland Raiders are a joke
As a former Raiders fan, I feel bad for the Raider fan base. The Raiders had one of the best players in the NFL and they let him get away. How many millions of dollars have Raiders fans spent on Khalil Mack number 52 jerseys?
What a travesty. I hope the Las Vegas people enjoy having the Raiders play home games in their fine city until the Raiders up and move to San Antonio, Oklahoma City, or some other city offering shiny trinkets and empty promises. It’s one of the few things the Raiders organizations excel at: leaving town.
