Why do I have to defend Meghan McCain?

People are upset with Meghan McCain. She had things to say about the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccination on the television show The View. People seem to have a problem with this:

The fact that I Meghan McCain, co-host of The View, I don’t know when or how I will be able to get a vaccine because the rollout for my age range and my health is so nebulous, I have no idea when and how I can get it. I want to get it.

The methodology behind the COVID-19 vaccine distribution is nebulous

I totally agree with her. I’m 56 years old, and I have diabetes. Not to brag, but I’m also overweight. I’m the type of person proven to experience major health issues if I contract COVID-19. That said, like Meghan McCain, I have no idea when I will be able to get the life-saving vaccine.

The federal government has been just as terrible with the vaccine rollout as it has been with everything else concerning the coronavirus. The federal government insists on distributing the vaccine to each state and relying on each state to develop its own criteria for getting the vaccine into arms. We are one country, but we have over fifty different systems of getting shots into arms. That’s stupid.

Back to Meghan McCain. People are taking what she said and trying to frame it as though she’s an entitled diva who wants to get her vaccination shot before everyone else does.  For example, Sam Seder posted a video on YouTube about what she said. The video’s title is “Meghan McCain Says FORGET Old People, Wants Her Vaccine NOW.”

She didn’t say any of that. She didn’t imply any of that.

Either Sam Seder and crew have a reading (or listening) comprehension problem or are willing to engage in dishonesty to score political points. They should be ashamed either way.

Meghan McCain was not complaining that she has to wait for “old people” to get the vaccine. She’s not asking to bump the line like Senator Marco Rubio. She wants to know when it will be her turn. She mentioned that she is a co-host of The View, not because she thinks it should bump her up in line, but because it illustrates just how in the dark even she is on when it will be her turn.

I’m tired of being in the dark

Our country has failed us. It’s not asking too much to know when it will be your turn to get the COVID-19 vaccine. It’s really not. We all realize we have to wait our turn to get the vaccine. Asking when it will be your turn shouldn’t be like consulting a Magic 8 Ball.

  1. When I first heard the uproar, I think I was focused on the first ten words of her statement, “The fact that I Meghan McCain, co-host of The View” Remove them, and she poses a completely reasonable question. Intellectually, I’m expecting that I’ll be in the latter part of the queue, and I’m okay with that, but it has been frustrating that my state’s phase-finder tool cannot tell me what phase I’m in, only that I’m ineligible for current vaccination.

    1. I think most people focused on the first ten words. I took it to mean that with all the informational resources she has at her disposal as a host on The View, even she cannot ascertain as to when it will be her turn.

I don’t like Meghan McCain. I don’t agree with her politics. That doesn’t mean I’m going to pretend she said something when she clearly didn’t.
