At least three fully vaccinated members of Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan’s staff have tested positive for COVID-19.
From the Baltimore Sun:
Three members of Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan’s team have tested positive for the coronavirus and an alert went out to thousands of people who attended a political conference last week.
“While we cannot disclose any personal health information, three members of Governor Hogan’s staff recently tested positive for COVID-19. All those affected are feeling fine,” Kata D. Hall, a spokeswoman for the Republican governor, said in a statement Wednesday.
The governor’s office first confirmed the positive cases Tuesday night. Those who tested positive are quarantining in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention protocol. The governor’s office also said contact tracing is underway.
Ironically, the governor’s office is bragging about following CDC protocol regarding quarantining. Hogan has been very selective with the CDC guidelines he adheres to. He ignores the CDC’s recommendations for areas where the risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission is considered “high.” The CDC recommends unvaccinated and vaccinated people go back to wearing masks in high-risk areas. Gov. Hogan refuses to do that. Instead, he leaves it up to local officials to decide whether to follow CDC recommendations or not.
This is a map of Maryland. The areas in red are identified as high-risk by the CDC.
I live in Washington County. It’s the third county from the left. Our COVID-19 numbers are going up. We also have one of the lowest vaccination rates in the state. We still don’t have a mask mandate in place. The Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 is flowing freely here in Washington County.
So it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest that Gov. Hogan cannot keep his own staff safe from the virus that causes COVID-19. He insists on going to potential superspreader events to make people think the pandemic is officially over. He drags his staff with him to these events, and now they’re sick.
