Disney has confirmed that J.J. Abrams will indeed be directing the next Star Wars movie, the first since purchasing Lucasfilm for over four billion dollars. Abrams, who created the TV show LOST, directed the 2009 motion picture reboot of Star Trek. He’s also directing the next Star Trek movie, Star Trek Into Darkness.
I was hoping Joss Whedon would get the nod, but I’m sure Abrams will do a palatable job. When you think about it, in a lot of ways, his first Star Trek movie was more like Star Wars than it was Star Trek. It was very much an action movie that took place in space. A lot of things blew up. There was even a planet that was destroyed.
Personally, I don’t really care who directs the next Star Wars movie, as long as it isn’t George Lucas.
I think this means Abrams can now go and get different glasses. If you direct both Star Trek and Star Wars, you don’t need to wear nerd glasses. You’re nerd cred is completely safe for the rest of your life, whether you like it or not.
