Hank Williams, Jr. is in a bit of hot water over remarks he made on Fox News about golf, Adolf Hitler, and the Three Stooges. He appeared on Fox and Friends via satellite and talked about John Boehner’s not-so-recent golf game with Barack Obama. He had this to say:
That would be like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu. Not hardly. In the shape this country is in?
When host Brian Kilmeade said he didn’t understand the analogy, Williams went on to refer to Obama and Biden as the “enemy” and “The Three Stooges.”
I’m not sure how two men can be The Three Stooges, but in Williams’ defense, I’m sure he doesn’t either.
Hank Williams, Jr. sings the opening to Monday Night Football, Are you ready for some football?, first on ABC and now on ESPN, off and on since 1991. ESPN responded to the controversy by going all Dixie Chicks on Williams: they pulled his music from last night’s opening of Monday Night Football.
I think what Williams said was both ignorant and insensitive, but what should people expect? He is what he is. For all we know, he was under the impression that when appearing on Fox News, he was supposed to refer to Obama as being like Hitler at least once.
