Google to invest $55 million in Mojave Desert wind farm

Google announced yesterday that they, in a partnership with Citibank, will be investing $55 million in the Alta Wind Energy Center located near Tehachapi, California.

When the project is complete, the Alta Wind Energy Center will generate 1.5 gigawatts of clean electricity. That’s enough to power 450,000 homes or to send a DeLorean back in time.

The Mojave Desert is the Saudi Arabia of wind. I grew up there. Wind is something the area has in excess. I think it’s fantastic that Google is pumping so much money into the project.
