General Qassem Soleimani

President Donald Trump ordered an MQ-9 Reaper drone missile attack on Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, killing him along with several Iranian-backed militia officials.

This is what Trump had to say about the assassination from his resort in Florida:

Suleimani was plotting imminent and sinister attacks on American diplomats and military personnel, but we caught him in the act and terminated him. We took action last night to stop a war, we did not take action to start a war.

Caught him in the act? He was in a convoy leaving the Baghdad International Airport. It’s not like he was found making improvised explosive devices in the back of a Catholic orphanage or something else equally “sinister.”

Iran will seek revenge

Make no mistake, Iran will do something to retaliate for this assassination. Iran is ruled by horrible, brutal men who use religion to control people. Not satisfied with exerting their control merely within their own borders, they export their influence outward into the surrounding region. Iran has been in Iraq since George W. Bush invaded Iraq under false pretenses.

Americans will die because of what Donald Trump did. Either in the Middle-East, Europe, or here in the United States. I know I won’t be making any transcontinental flights anytime soon.

I am getting really tired of these endless wars

I think it’s long past the time for the United States to extricate itself entirely from the Middle-East. Yes, that even includes Israel. It’s long past time for these countries to grow up. They will only do so when we stop forcing our influence into the region.

Donald Trump needs to be a one-term president

This incident shows why the upcoming presidential election is so important. Trump is unfit to be Commander-in-Chief. The assassination of Soleimani proves that. If only the corporate news media wasn’t meddling in our election. Even though not a single vote has been cast by a single voter, the corporate news media has already declared who the front runners are. At least one member of the tote-bag news media, NPR senior political editor Domenico Montanaro, has decided who is a serious, credible candidate and who isn’t.

Spoiler: Andrew Yang is not a serious candidate.

Donald Trump ordered the assassination of an Iranian general - Bent Corner Not a single voter has cast a vote, yet NPR’s Domenico Montanaro has decided who has a credible, visible path to the Democratic nomination and who doesn’t. Americans should think about this the next time NPR asks for handouts. I know I will.

  1. This is one of those instances where you and I differ. Soleimani was under a UN sanctioned travel ban and had no business being outside Iran. He was involved with the killing of American military and contractors and needed to go. I do agree with you that his death will certainly lead to more American or allies deaths. Furthermore, I agree that we can not expect the Middle East nations to accept our love of freedom and republic governance. I wish the US would get out of the country building business. Unfortunately, similar to Japan, Korea, and most of Europe, we aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. When we were stationed in Guam, I remember you saying that we need to make Iran into a glass parking lot. We are both much older and much wiser and have put away childish things.

    1. I did want to turn Iran into a glass parking lot back in the 80s. In my defense, I was young and didn’t know what I was talking about. I still don’t know what I’m talking about, but my opinions have changed.

I still don’t like Iran’s government and the religious gangsters who control everything there. The difference now is my opinion on how to deal with them and other bad actors in the region. We should remove ourselves from the entire region. Remove all the troops and the contractors. Shut down the embassies. Stop selling weapons there. Let the Middle East just be the Middle East without any American influence whatsoever.

      1. I wish It were that easy to remove ourselves from the Middle East or the world scene. Let people rule over themselves. Likewise as we try to export our ideals of democracy, they want to impose Islamic ideals upon the world. I have no argument with those who don’t believe as I. Let free people choose for themselves unless it impinges on my inalienable God given rights. p.s. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Guam photo on your bio. It brought back wonderful memories.

        1. I think it would be fairly easy to extract ourselves from the Middle East. Democracy will never work in the Middle East. That’s fine because Islamism will never work in the free world.

We should only get involved with countries that share our values. There’s not a country in the Middle East that shares our values.

I loved my time on Guam. I loved the work and I loved everything about the lifestyle the island offered. Good times!
