Unlike Transformers toys found at Walmart, this action figure does not actually convert into its real-world counterpart. You can tell by looking at it that it’s based on the F-4. The wings and the air intakes are very much from an F-4. I should know, I worked on F-4E and F-4G aircraft when I was in the Air Force. From 1985 to 1988, I was stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. I was assigned to the 3rd Component Repair Squadron (CRS). The 3rd CRS was part of the 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing. I worked the flightline, maintaining the electronic warfare systems installed on the F-4E and F-4G. The aircraft were flown by the 90th Tactical Fighter Squadron and the 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing.
If I remember correctly, there were 48 F-4 aircraft at Clark Air Base. What I do remember correctly is that I hated working on the F-4. The Philippines was not conducive to working on fighter aircraft outside of a hanger. It was hot, and it rained all the time. Everything was hard to get to. When the engineers designed the F-4, they gave zero thought to repair.
Although I hate the F-4, I like this Blitzwing action figure. If I had an extra $500 sitting around earmarked for something silly like an action figure, I might even buy it. Maybe.
