Steve McNair’s death ruled a murder-suicide

From the Baltimore Sun:

Former Ravens quarterback Steve McNair was fatally shot in his sleep last week by a 20-year-old girlfriend distraught about mounting financial problems and her belief that he was seeing someone else, police said Wednesday.

Sahel Kazemi “was spinning out of control” when she shot McNair four times as he dozed on a sofa early Saturday, then turned the gun on herself, Police Chief Ronal Serpas said.

Well there you have it, McNair is dead because he picked the wrong waitress from Dave & Busters to be his not-so-secret mistress. He should have chosen one that wouldn’t have gotten all homicidal over the fact that he was cheating on her with another mistress.

It sucks to be him.

I can’t help but think that he’d be alive today if he had simply stayed faithful to Mechelle McNair, his wife of 12 years and the mother of two of his four children. By all accounts, Mechelle McNair didn’t know that her husband had a mistress or a second mistress until she was informed that Steve McNair was dead.  She finds out that her husband is a cheating scumbag and that he’s dead in the very same instant.  Talk about a punch to the gut. Does she even go to the funeral?

And let the record show that contrary to published reports, Steve McNair was no “warrior”. Warriors don’t let their 20-year old crazy-ass Iranian born mistresses put four rounds into them while they are dozing on the sofa.

Steve McNair 1973 – 2009

Steve-McNair

Steve McNair, 36, former four-time Pro Bowl NFL quarterback, was found dead yesterday in his downtown Nashville condominium. He had been shot multiple times including once in the head. Also found dead was a 20-year old woman, Sahel Kazemi. Her body was found next to him. She had been shot only once. A handgun was found near her body, but it took police a while to find it.

Police reported that McNair’s wife, Mechelle McNair, was “very distraught.”

Kazemi was arrested for DUI only two days prior while driving a 2007 Escalade registered to her and McNair, who was with her in the vehicle. She refused a breathalyzer test and told the arresting officer that she was “not drunk, she was high.” McNair was allowed to take a taxi home.

Friends have said that McNair met Kazemi at a Nashville restaurant, Dave & Busters, where she was a waitress.

McNair played with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Oilers/Tennessee Titans from 1995 to 2005.  He then played for two years with the Baltimore Ravens before retiring. He was named NFL Co-MVP in 2003 along with Indianapolis Colts quarterback Payton Manning. McNair had 174 career touchdowns, 119 career interceptions, and he threw for 31,304 yards. He also rushed for 3,590 yards. He had a lifetime quarterback rating of 82.8.

The only football game I’m looking forward to watching today

Most of my fellow Americans are looking forward to watching the Arizona Cardinals (9-7) face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4) in tonight’s Super Bowl.  Though I may (or may not) watch the Big Game™ between these two teams,  I could honestly care less who wins.  Neither team was the best team this past season.  That distinction belongs to the Tennessee Titans (13-3).

Six other teams in the NFC had either better or equal records compared to the the Cardinals. Three teams in the AFC had records either better or equal when compared to the Steelers.

I’ve never put much stock into the Super Bowl. Only occasionally does the winner of the Super Bowl represent the best football team that year. The purpose of the Super Bowl is not to separate the very best from the best football teams in the league, it’s to separate as much money from TV networks, advertisers, gamblers, and attendees as possible.

It’s all about the money.

The football game I’m looking forward to watching today doesn’t involve the NFL.   It involves two teams that play real football, Lazio and AC Milan of the Italian football league. Normally we only watch the English Premier League, but now that David Beckham is finally playing (and scoring) for AC Milan, it will be an interesting game to watch.

Ravens advance to the AFC Championship

The Baltimore Ravens beat the Tennessee Titans on Saturday, 13-10, to advance to the AFC Championship game.  They will play their AFC North rival the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday night for the chance to go to the Superbowl. Once again, the Ravens are relying on their stellar defense to advance in the post-season.

The NFL being the NFL, there was of course an officiating mistake that helped the Ravens. With less than three minutes in the game and the Ravens on offense, the play clock clearly went down to zero before the Ravens could start the play.

Oops.

Wow, the Lions really suck

Like a good American I’m watching the first NFL game between the Tennessee Titans and the Detroit Lions. I cannot believe just how bad the Lions really are. Granted, I realized before this game that they were a whopping 0-11 for the season. If anything, they are even worse than their meager record suggests.

Why than are they even on national TV?

I know that they have always been shown on TV on Thanksgiving Day and it’s some sort of tradition, but enough is enough. The NFL should have yanked them from their Thanksgiving Day obligation years ago. You don’t showcase your worst team on national TV for the entire country to watch.

I have to hand it to Lions fans. It looks as though the stadium is packed with people. It’s not like they don’t have anything better to do. It takes a lot to be a Lions fan in 2008.
