I was convinced yesterday that the Sarah Palin story could not get any more weird.  Obviously I was wrong.  The McCain campaign released a statement today from the Palin family informing the world that Sarah Palin’s 17-year old is daughter is with child.  She is pregnant.  From the Palin family:

“We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents.

They are proud that their 17-year old child has decided to become a parent and they are even prouder to become grandparents? Maybe the word has a different meaning up in Alaska.

Also from the Palin family:

As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support. “Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi’s privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates.”

So she is going to compound the problem of having a baby at 17 by marrying the boy (or man) that impregnated her? Gee, I wonder what the odds are of that turning out to be a long and happy marriage.

Why would Governor Palin agree to run for Vice-President knowing that her 17-year old daughter was with child? What’s the rush? Does she worry that if she doesn’t run for Vice-President now, she will be too experienced later on?

Why would they even release this information about their daughter? According to McCain adviser Mark Salter the campaign announced the daughter’s pregnancy to rebut the rumors that Sarah Palin’s fifth child that was born in April and was really born to Bristol Palin. If Bristol is now four months pregnant, she couldn’t possibly have given birth to baby Trig this past April.

I’ll be honest and admit that I don’t quite understand what attraction some gay men have with sexual encounters in public restrooms. I don’t even like using a public restroom to go to the restroom. Public restrooms are nasty and I don’t like using them unless I really need to.

Craig claims that he is not gay. Its hard to imagine why then he would plead guilty to disorderly conduct in conjunction to being arrested for lewd conduct in a men’s room.

This whole thing would be so much easier to understand if he was gay. It’s his assertion that he is a woman-loving heterosexual that makes this whole story really creepy. Being gay would only help to explain this whole thing, especially if he was a closeted Republican gay man.

The sad part about all this mess is that some people out there will take this story and conclude from this that all gay men like to troll public restrooms for gay sex. That’s simply not true. Gay men and women can be in committed relationships like anyone else. Why do conservatives so fervently battle the idea of gay marriage? If gay people are not capable of a committed relationship as they argue, why even bother trying to stop gay marriage?
