The New Yorker magazine claims that the cover of it’s July 21 issue is meant to be satirical. They claim that artist Barry Blitt is satirizing the use of scare tactics and misinformation in the Presidential election to derail Barack Obama’s campaign.

Really? Did anyone ever claim that Michelle Obama walks around wearing camouflage clothing with a AK-47 strapped to her back? I must have missed that one.  When did anyone ever claim that they use the American Flag for firewood?  Did anyone ever say anything about a framed portrait of Usama bin Ladin?

This cover makes it seem that any criticism, even valid criticism, pertaining to Barack Obama is unwarranted. There’s a difference between satirizing misinformation and just making stuff up.  I fully believe there is more then enough to criticize Barack Obama about without having to resort to making stuff up about him.

The story that resonates the most with me is the one about him attending a church for twenty years lead by a hateful whack job of a pastor that believed the United States government created the AIDS virus. A man who when speaking about President Bill Clinton, actually humped the pulpit.

This story, unlike all the made up ones, is actually true.

Michelle Obama speaking at a rally in Milwaukee said:

“Hope is making a comeback and, let me tell you, for the first time in my adult life I am really proud of my country. Not just because Barack is doing well, but I think people are hungry for change.”

Way to perpetuate the myth that Democrats don’t love their country. This was an incredibly dumb thing to say.

Why do candidates even send their spouses out on the campaign trial? Nothing good can come from it. I can guarantee you that nobody votes for a candidate because of something their spouse said during the campaign. No good can come out of a spouse speaking on the campaign trail. Look at all the grief Bill is causing Hillary. It’s almost as though Bill is trying to tank it for her.

Maybe Michelle Obama doesn’t want to be the First Lady.

Politics

I voted

Today is the day Maryland, Virgina, and Washington D.C. hold their primary elections. People are calling it the Potomac Primary after the nasty, dirty river that runs through all three places. Here in Hagerstown, you couldn’t ask for a nastier day to vote. It has been snowing and sleeting most of the day.

Sheri and I voted at nearby Hagerstown Community College. There wasn’t that many people their casting votes. It was probably the smallest crowd I’ve seen voting at the college. I don’t know if it’s because of the weather or because most of the people living here are Republican. Maybe it was a combination of the two. I probably wouldn’t vote either if I could only vote for one presidential candidate.

Something funny happened as I was going over my ballot and double checking my votes. My cell phone started to ring. Are you even allowed to answer your phone while standing in the voting booth? They never covered that in my high school government class. That’s probably because they hadn’t invented the cell phone yet. I decided to go ahead and answer it. It turned out to be a taped message from Michelle Obama reminding me to go out and vote. As I was listening to her speak, I was looking at my ballot making sure the “X” was next to her husband’s name. It was a surreal moment.
