Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable hits ladies, but at least he doesn’t kill dogs

cableAs if fans of the Silver and Black didn’t already have enough to be ashamed of this year, it appears that the Oakland Raiders have a head coach who likes to hit the ladies. At least that is what ESPN’s Outside the Lines will have you believe.

This past August, Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable made news after an altercation with assistant coach Randy Hanson that left Hanson with a broken jaw. Normally when you have a disagreement with someone and their jaw happens to get broken in the process, you are going to see the inside of a jail cell. That didn’t happen to Cable. On October 23, the Napa County district attorney announced that Cable would not be charged.

Obviously it would seem Cable has a problem controlling his anger. When was the last time you heard of an NFL coach breaking someone’s jaw or any other body part? If a man has problems controlling his anger against one of his assistant coaches without resorting to violence, it stands to reason he probably has the same problem when it comes to dealing with the women in his life.

Not that I have a lot of knowledge or experience with men that beat women.

Michael Vick speaks

Watch CBS Videos Online

Michael Vick was interviewed last night on 60 Minutes by James Brown of CBS Sports. It marks the first time Vick has been interviewed since getting out of federal prison after serving 18 months his involvement in an illegal dog fighting ring.

Not that there is such a thing as a “legal” dog fighting ring.

I thought before watching the interview that Brown might go easy on Vick, but he didn’t. He asked all the tough questions that needed to be asked. Not that I think it will make any difference. Say what you will about the Americans people, we aren’t too big on forgiveness, especially when we think the person in need of our forgiveness doesn’t really feel any real remorse.

It’s easy to look down on Michael Vick because he participated in a disgusting and brutal activity. Not only do most people love dogs, they love being able to look down on other people, especially people who are rich and successful.

Does Vick really feel sorry for what he did? I doubt it. I think he’s only sorry that he was caught and had to go to prison. If he enjoyed watching two dogs fight to the death before going to prison, I’m pretty sure he still enjoys it.

The NFL sort of reinstates Michael Vick

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has conditionally reinstated quarterback Michael Vick.  From ESPN:

Vick, free after serving 18 months in prison for running a dogfighting ring, was reinstated with conditions by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday.

Vick can immediately take part in preseason practices, workouts and meetings and can play in the final two preseason games — if he can find a team that will sign him. A number of teams have already said they would not.
Once the season begins, Vick may participate in all team activities except games, and Goodell said he would consider Vick for full reinstatement by Week 6 (Oct. 18-19) at the latest.

I don’t really see the point in this. Either Vick should be allowed to play in the NFL or he shouldn’t. I don’t really see the point of suspending him from playing in the first six games of the season. Does Goodell think that Vick hasn’t been punished enough? The man spent 18 months in federal prison. I think that’s punishment enough.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m no fan of dogfighting or the people that engage in it. I think it’s a disgusting and barbaric activity. I think killing animals for entertainment is wrong, whether it’s dogfighting or bullfighting.

I just think people need to dial down the public outrage when it comes to Michael Vick.

NFL player kills a man and gets a whopping 30 days in jail

donte-stallworthDonte’ Stallworth, wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns, got behind the wheel of his black 2005 Bentley after a night of drinking at a Miami Beach bar and hit and killed a pedestrian, 59-year old construction worker Mario Reyes.  Stallworth was arrested for DUI manslaughter and faced a possible 15 years in prison.  He first reached a financial agreement with Reyes’ family and he then accepted a plea deal from the Miami prosecutor that gave him only 30 days in jail.

Get drunk, get behind the wheel, kill a man, and get only 30 days in jail.

Good thing he only killed a man and not pit bulls. Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick ran a dog fighting ring and spent 23 month federal prison. He was also kicked out of the NFL. Will Donte’ Stallworth also get the heave-ho from the league?

We shall see.

Saudi Arabia treats women worse than how Michael Vick treats dogs

This is just disgusting:

A Saudi Arabian court has sentenced a 75-year-old Syrian woman to 40 lashes, four months imprisonment and deportation from the kingdom for having two unrelated men in her house, according to local media reports.

According to the Saudi daily newspaper Al-Watan, troubles for the woman, Khamisa Mohammed Sawadi, began last year when a member of the religious police entered her house in the city of Al-Chamli and found her with two unrelated men, “Fahd” and “Hadian.”

Fahd told the policeman he had the right to be there, because Sawadi had breast-fed him as a baby and was therefore considered to be a son to her in Islam, according to Al-Watan. Fahd, 24, added that his friend Hadian was escorting him as he delivered bread for the elderly woman. The policeman then arrested both men.

Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam called Wahhabism and punishes unrelated men and women who are caught mingling.

The Saudis can blame their religion, but no matter what they do to justify it, there is never a valid reason to beat a 75-year old woman. They treat women worse than people in this county treat animals.

This is just ridiculous. And to think we support this country with our addiction to oil.
