Tiger Woods injured in car crash

Tiger Woods was involved in an auto accident. From WESH NBC Orlando:

The Florida Highway Patrol said Woods was injured in the crash, which took place at about 2:30 a.m., and was taken to Health Central Hospital. The Orange County Fire Department confirmed that a patient was taken to Health Central, but would not confirm that the patient was Woods.

A source told WESH 2 News that Woods has been treated for facial lacerations.

Woods was driving a 2009 black Cadillac Escalade when he lost control and hit a fire hydrant outside his home and a tree outside his neighbor’s home, FHP said.

FHP said the crash is still under investigation. It said alcohol did not play a role in the crash, but that charges are pending.

Isn’t Woods a spokesman for Buick? Why then wasn’t he behind the wheel of a Buick? Granted, Buick and Cadillac are both brands owned by General Motors, but Woods only appears in commercials for Buick.

How does someone crash into a fire hydrant and then a tree at 2:30 a.m. and not be drunk while doing it? Can a sober person even do that? If anything, being sober while unleashing all that vehicular chaos is even worse if you aren’t drunk.

I’m pretty sure he was drunk. He had to be.

General Motors to shut down most US plants up to 9 weeks

It looks like the hard working American auto worker will be getting the summer off.  At least the ones that work for GM.  General Motors has too many new vehicles sitting around that nobody wants to buy making building even more vehicles that nobody wants seem kind of silly.

If you are worried about the hard working United Auto Workers union members not getting a paycheck while their plants are shut down, don’t be.  It looks like they will still get paid:

Thousands of workers could be laid off but would still get most of their pay because their United Auto Workers union contract requires the company to make up much of the difference between state unemployment benefits and their wages.

Is it any wonder that GM is failing? The only thing worse than building gas guzzling trucks and SUVs that people don’t want is paying workers even when they aren’t actually working.

How much of the auto industry bailout will go to NASCAR?

Evidently there is now talk in Washington D.C. of giving around $50 billion to the American auto industry.  I think before either General Motors or Ford is given any tax dollars, someone needs to find out how much of that money will be trickle down to NASCAR. Both companies spend millions and millions of dollars every year on NASCAR.

Instead of spending millions helping Jeff Gordon turn left really, really fast, they should be investing in developing technology to make cars more fuel efficient.

They of course wont be doing that.

The American auto industry sucks

With all the talk of General Motors needing a bailout from the federal government just to stay afloat, I had to laugh when I read the following:

Despite the down economy, falling gas prices have driven consumers back to the sport utility vehicles they once gave the cold shoulder.

Workers at General Motor’s Arlington, Texas, SUV assembly plant began working overtime this month and are scheduled to remain on overtime for the rest of the year.

The plant, which employs 2,500 workers, is now the only GM factory building full-size sport utility vehicles like the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade.

The minute gas prices fall back to somewhat reasonable levels, GM responds by cranking out the Escalades. One of the reasons GM is facing bankruptcy is because of the vehicles it chooses to produce, mainly gas guzzling behemoths. Vehicles like the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade.

If the auto industry needs a bailout, let the oil industry bail them out. The American auto industry helped Big Oil generate massive profits by refusing to produce energy efficient vehicles.
