Catholic Church threatens to stop helping the poor if gay people are allowed to marry
The Catholic Archdiocese of Washington is threatening to pull out of contracts it has with the District to provide various social service programs for the city’s needy if a proposed gay marriage law goes into effect next month. Churches would not be forced to conduct gay marriages. They, along with every other business or organization in the District, simply would not be allowed to discriminate against gay or lesbian people because they were gay or lesbian people.
I hate to point out the obvious, but Jesus wouldn’t discriminate anyone. Though he never spoke about gay people, Jesus was all about extending love and kindness to the people everyone else looked down upon. Is there a group of people more looked down upon today than gays and lesbians?
Jesus ministered to everyone, but he made a point of especially ministering to those that everyone else despised and rejected. If the Catholic Church is correct and gays and lesbians are sinners for being gay or lesbian, then these are just the people they should be ministering to. Jesus would not discriminate against gay or lesbian people.
Jesus wouldn’t withhold love or kindness from someone because the local government enacted a policy he didn’t agree with. Jesus cured lepers and healed the sick even though I’m sure he didn’t agree with everything the Roman Empire did. To think otherwise is just silly.
When Jesus said to go out and feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, and to comfort those in distress, he didn’t preface it first by saying to only do these things if the local government passed laws you agree with.

Rob Liefeld responds to the gayness of Shatterstar

In a recent issue of X-Factor, two male characters, Shatterstar and Rictor are seen making out. I’m no expert, but I assume this means that Rictor and Shatterstar are now both officially gay.
As luck would have it, not everyone is happy about this new development, including Rob Liefeld, the artist that created the Shatterstar character back in the 1990’s while working for Marvel Comics. Liefeld recently wrote on his message board that Shatterstar is not gay:
As the guy that created, designed and wrote his first dozen appearances, Shatterstar is not gay. Sorry. Can’t wait to someday undo this… Shatterstar is akin to Maximus in Gladiator. He’s a warrior, a Spartan, and not a gay one.
Yes, because we all know that there is nothing gay about gladiator movies.
Knowing now that it bothers Liefeld to have one of his characters retconned gay, I think Marvel Comics ought to turn all his old characters into Friends of Dorthy. They could then inform him that all his old characters will remain gay until he learns how to properly draw feet.
So in other words, all his old Marvel characters would remain gay permanently.
Amazon de-lists books dealing with homosexuality
When author Mark R. Probst noticed that hundreds of books dealing with gay and lesbian themes including his own book, The Filly had suddenly disappeared from the Amazon sales rankings, he contacted Amazon about it. Here is the response:
In consideration of our entire customer base, we exclude “adult” material from appearing in some searches and best seller lists. Since these lists are generated using sales ranks, adult materials must also be excluded from that feature.
Hence, if you have further questions, kindly write back to us.

So Amazon has decided that any book involving gay or lesbian themes is now suddenly “adult”. How nice of them. Let me see if I understand this. If a book has two characters named Chris and Bill that fall in love, it’s “adult”. If a book has two characters named Kris and Bill that fall in love, it’s not “adult”. Does that make any kind of sense?
And it’s not only gay and lesbian fiction that is getting de-listed by Amazon. A biography of Ellen DeGeneres is no longer showing up in the Amazon sales list. If you scroll down to the “Product Details” section, under the “Average Customer Review”, you should see “Amazon.com Sales Rank.” If you don’t, as in the case of the DeGeneres biography, the book has been de-listed.
Woman worries that her son might get his secret girlfriend pregnant
A woman is troubled by the way her 17-year old has been acting of late and decides to do what any sane and rational person would do in a similar situation; she posted her problem to Yahoo! Answers:
I’m concerned that my son has a secret girlfriend?
My 17 year old son has been very secretive with me lately, recently he has started to refuse to go to church with the family and tonight when I was going through his room I found a magazine with naked men in it. He obviously has a girlfriend that he is hiding from me that brought that magazine into my home and I am afraid they are having intercourse and I am greatly concerned that he is going to get her pregnant. What should I do about this?
So, the woman goes snooping around her son’s bedroom and finds a nudie magazine with nothing but naked men in it and she assumes that her son has a secret girlfriend who not only enjoys male nudie magazines, but likes to bring them to her secret boyfriend’s house.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that I don’t think she has to ever worry about her 17-year old son impregnating women. Not now, not ever.
Now Christians have one more reason to hate Harry Potter
Not only do the Harry Potter books feature witches and wizards, at least one of the main characters was gay. A gay wizard. What’s the world of literary fantasy based fiction coming to?
This from Newsweek:
In front of a full house of hardcore Potter fans at Carnegie Hall in New York, Rowling, sitting on the stage on a red velvet and carved wood throne, read from her seventh and final book, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” then took questions. One fan asked whether Albus Dumbledore, the head of the famed Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft, had ever loved anyone. Rowling smiled. “Dumbledore is gay, actually,” replied Rowling as the audience erupted in surprise. She added that, in her mind, Dumbledore had an unrequited love affair with Gellert Grindelwald, Voldemort’s predecessor who appears in the seventh book. After several minutes of prolonged shouting and clapping from astonished fans, Rowling added. “I would have told you earlier if I knew it would make you so happy.”
To some people, the only thing worse then a gay wizard would be a gay wizard conducting stem cell research. I’m not sure how the religious right will react to the notion of a character loved by millions of children being gay. I’m guessing it wont be good.
