Steve McNair 1973 – 2009

Steve McNair, 36, former four-time Pro Bowl NFL quarterback, was found dead yesterday in his downtown Nashville condominium. He had been shot multiple times including once in the head. Also found dead was a 20-year old woman, Sahel Kazemi. Her body was found next to him. She had been shot only once. A handgun was found near her body, but it took police a while to find it.
Police reported that McNair’s wife, Mechelle McNair, was “very distraught.”
Kazemi was arrested for DUI only two days prior while driving a 2007 Escalade registered to her and McNair, who was with her in the vehicle. She refused a breathalyzer test and told the arresting officer that she was “not drunk, she was high.” McNair was allowed to take a taxi home.
Friends have said that McNair met Kazemi at a Nashville restaurant, Dave & Busters, where she was a waitress.
McNair played with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Oilers/Tennessee Titans from 1995 to 2005. He then played for two years with the Baltimore Ravens before retiring. He was named NFL Co-MVP in 2003 along with Indianapolis Colts quarterback Payton Manning. McNair had 174 career touchdowns, 119 career interceptions, and he threw for 31,304 yards. He also rushed for 3,590 yards. He had a lifetime quarterback rating of 82.8.
Who knew the NFL had a problem with players getting drunk and killing people?
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has indefinitely suspended Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth for getting his drink on, getting behind the wheel of this 2005 Bentley, and killing a man.
From the Miami-Herald:
“The conduct reflected in (Stallworth’s) guilty plea resulted in the tragic loss of life and was inexcusable,” said Goodell in a letter to Stallworth. “While the criminal justice system has determined the legal consequences of this incident, it is my responsibility as NFL Commissioner to determine appropriate league discipline for your actions, which have caused irreparable harm to the victim and his family, your club, your fellow players and the NFL.”
Stallworth received only a 30-day jail sentence after agreeing to plead guilty to DUI manslaughter. Like most people, I was surprised by the leniency of the plea agreement. I figured getting drunk and killing a man would earn Stallworth at least six weeks in jail, possibly even eight weeks.
Roger Goodell is a tough disciplinarian. Football players should try to avoid killing people on his watch.
Drunk driver that killed Nick Adenhart had a suspended license
Andrew Thomas Gallo, the piece of human excrement that killed Angels pitcher and Maryland native Nick Adenhart, is a drunk that was illegally driving on a suspended license. From the Associated Press:
The car they were riding in was broadsided in an intersection by a minivan that apparently ran a red light, police said.
Andrew Thomas Gallo, 22, of Riverside, was driving on a suspended license because of a previous drunk driving conviction. Preliminary results indicated Gallo’s blood-alcohol level was “substantially over the legal limit” of .08 percent, police Lt. Kevin Hamilton said.
There has got to be a way of stopping drunks like Andrew Thomas Gallo from getting behind the wheel. Everyone is afraid of Islamic terrorists, there is a much better chance that you will be killed by a drunk like Andrew Thomas Gallo than you will be by a terrorist.
It’s not even close.
Michael Phelps is an idiot
I’m sure you seen (or at least heard about) the photo of Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps smoking marijuana from the water pipe. The cool kids that hang out behind the bleachers refer to them as bongs.
What was he thinking?
I thought he was trying to make a career as a pitchman for various goods and services. I seem to remember watching this really stupid commercial for the Rosetta Stone language software featuring Phelps learning to speak Chinese.
Or maybe it was Klingon. I always get the two languages mixed up. Read the full article »
Joe Gibbs Racing cheated and will face santions
Former Redskins coach Joe Gibbs liked to make a big deal about “personal character” when it came to Redskins players. How ironic then that NASCAR is coming down with sanctions against his racing team because they attempted to alter the outcome of a chassis dyno test.
They cheated.
When Redskins safety Sean Taylor (since deceased) was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, Gibbs immediately jumped at the chance to grandstand. He immediately suspended Taylor for one game and spoke to reporters saying that character was important to the team and that “you don’t ever want this on the team”.
I never was sure what “this” he was referring to. An innocent man?
Taylor was later cleared of all charges. A judge ruled after viewing the video of the traffic stop and the field sobriety test that Taylor showed no signs of intoxication and in fact passed the test.
Sean Taylor was innocent.
Joe Gibbs suspended an innocent man. Instead of allowing the judicial system decide Taylor’s guilt or innocence, Gibbs immediately suspended him and then grandstanded about it to reporters.
The only thing worse then a cheater is a hypocrite. In Gibbs’ case, he’s both.
