Frakkin’ $75 toaster!

If you attend this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, you will have the opportunity to buy one of these snazzy official Battlestar Galactica toasters. They are being made available from NBC Universal at $75 each. The production run is limited at 1,000.

The term “toaster” is a racial slur used by the Colonists against their hated enemies, the Cylons.

FedconUSA organizer Tim Brazeal canceled the convention almost 24 hours after it began, leaving celebrity guests and fans — some dressed as Klingons — stranded in Dallas with nowhere to go. Personally, I don’t know what I would hate more - being dressed as a Klingon or being stuck in Dallas.

Tim Brazeal posted a message on his website concerning the cancellation:

For a first time convention, getting financial support in today’s economy is next to impossible. There are so many upfront costs – flights, hotel rooms, convention space, food, guest fees, etc – that need to be paid before the convention even gets under way. From day one, FedConUSA has been operating in the red, with hopes of recouping our funds and making enough to continue on and make this an ongoing and fantastic convention experience for all of America.

Obviously, that just didn’t work out. We had expected much more walk-in attendance than we received, and hoped that we would have been able to pull things together enough that the show could go on. As you know, that didn’t happen. We are truly sorry to everyone for what has happened and disappointed that we couldn’t have put on a better show.

Expected more walk-in attendance? That’s a lot like expecting to win the lottery even though you don’t buy any lottery tickets.

If Brazeal wanted to cancel, he should have done it before the event was to take place. He shouldn’t have done it during the convention.

Over on the FedConUSA message board, there is a argument taking place between FedconUSA organizer Tim Brazeal and Aaron Douglas, “Chief Tyrol” from Battlestar Galactica. I don’t expect the message board will be around much longer.

  • The person that created the anti-Clinton “Vote Different” YouTube ad styled after the old Apple 1984 ad has been identified. He used to work for the company that does Internet work for the Obama campaign. He wrote a post over at at The Huffington Post explaining his motivation for the ad. Big shocker, he is an Obama supporter. Who would have thought that? He also explains that he made the ad without his employer’s knowledge. In fact he was fired for making the ad.
  • Elizabeth Edwards once again has cancer. It’s incurable, but it’s treatable. I’m not sure I understand that, but I usually don’t understand medical things until I see it in an episode of House. Her husband John Edwards will continue his campaign for the Democratic Presidential nomination. You would think with his wife facing such a serious medical problem, he would want to focus on her instead of his pursuit for third place.
  • Once again, that longed haired hippy Sanjaya Malakar escaped getting kicked off American Idol. When will he finally get voted off the show? Do I have to pick up the phone and actually vote for someone? Someone who’s name is not Sanjaya? His singing was so bad this week that he actually made a retarded girl cry. If this keeps up, I will begin to doubt the musical integrity of the show. I do not like Sanjaya Malakar.
  • Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy has weighed in on the topic of gay marriage. He says that he and Jesus are against it. That’s ironic, because many gay people in committed relationships think the Colts suck.
  • Apple launched their newest product today. It’s something called Apple TV. Oddly enough, they chose not to put a pretentious lowercase “i” in front of the name. Apple claims that it will enable you to put audio and video content from your iTunes library to your widescreen hi-def TV. It will allow you to watch movies, TV shows, podcasts, and porn pictures from your computer. It uses wireless to sync up to 6 computers to your TV. It costs $299. If you have a video iPod, you can simply buy a patch cable from Apple for less then $20 that allows you to basically do the same thing.
  • The SCI FI Channel has increased its episode order for the fourth season of Battlestar Galactica to 22 up from the original 13. If you ever wanted to realize just how much the last ten plus years of Star Trek sucked, watch an episode of Battlestar Galactica.
  • Sean Hannity first challenges the mayor of Salt Lake City to a debate on Iraq and impeachment, then chickens out. Hannity being the douche that he is then blamed the mayor as being the one to back out.
  • Speaking of Sean Hannity, has anyone ever seen Hannity and Nathen Lane at the same time? Those two look so much alike that I’m starting to think they might be the same person. Look here to see a comparison.
  • A study shows that 75% of all Blogspot blogs are spam blogs. That’s a shame because many of them are very good.
