Hagerstown’s newspaper of record, the Herald-Mail, allows readers to go to its website and respond to the many articles it publishes. Yesterday’s article chronicling President-elect Barack Obama’s historic win really brought the whack jobs out.
Here is just one example:
What is wrong with the people in this country? Don’t they realize that they just put the enemy in the highest position possible in this great country? A year from now there will be no Bibles, our children will be forced to be trained to destroy innocent people for no other reason than power and greed, and we will have no one to thank, but our own people. God have mercy on us all. He’s the only one that can save us now. Take a good look around you, because 4 years from now you won’t have the freedom to. Look at what we’ve destroyed.
This person thinks that Barack Obama as President will not only confiscate all of our Bibles, he will turn our children into suicide bombers. I don’t remember reading anything about that on the Obama website.
If you thought Republicans booing anytime they heard Barack Obama’s name would come to an end immediately after the election, you were wrong. John McCain tried to get the crowd to stop by shooting lightning out of his palms, but he evidently was all tapped out of The Force. He should have done that a couple of months ago when his supporters first began the Obama booing.
America has voted and Barack Obama will be our next President. The polls have shown it for some time now, but I’m not one to believe in the polls. Honestly, it seems almost too good to be true.
Looking at the Electoral vote map, it appears to be a landslide. Obama has 338 Electoral votes, while John McCain has 163. Three states are still too early to call- Missouri, Indiana, and North Carolina are all too early to call. Looking at the results of the 2004 Presidential election, Obama was able to flip Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Iowa, Colorado, New Mexico, and Nevada into blue states.
McCain was not able to flip any blue states. Maybe Obama will throw McCain a bone and let him be the President of Kentucky.
President-Elect Obama certainly has his work cut out for him. He has a job I certainly would not want. George W. Bush has certainly made a mess out of things.
As I’m sure everyone is aware of by now, Barack Obama’s grandmother died yesterday. He recently took time out of his busy campaign to fly to Hawaii for two days so that he could see her one last time before she died.
“Obama for America violated federal law by converting its campaign funds to Senator Obama’s personal use,” the release stated. “Senator Obama recently traveled to Hawaii to visit his sick grandmother. This was the right thing for any grandson to do — at his own expense — but it was not travel that his campaign may fund.”
At issue was whether the trip should have been paid for with campaign funds, based on the law that forbids candidates from using such funds to pay for personal travel. The Obama campaign said the trip had been vetted with lawyers beforehand and was allowable. The Republicans argued that, because Obama did not campaign during the quick journey to Hawaii, it should not have been a campaign expense.
Unbelievable. As if he was supposed to fly commercial without his Secret Service detail. So much for the party of “family values”. This is one more reason I will never be a Republican.
Today is Election Day here in the United States of America. I encourage every American who is registered to vote to go to their polling place and let their voice be heard. I am voting for Barack Obama for President, but even if you are planning on voting for John McCain, I would still encourage you to go vote.
The most important thing is that every American eligible to vote, goes out and votes.
Young Conservatives of Texas, a student group at Texas A&M held an anti-Obama carnival where they encouraged other students to engage in such things as throwing raw eggs at a poster of Barack Obama.

I don’t like Texas. I never have and I never will. I have many reasons for feeling this way, but mostly it’s because it’s full of Texans. Lots and lots of Texans.
A University of Texas poll to be released today shows Republican presidential candidate John McCain and GOP Sen. John Cornyn leading by comfortable margins in Texas, as expected. But the statewide survey of 550 registered voters has one very surprising finding: 23 percent of Texans are convinced that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is a Muslim.
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that 23 percent of Texans think Barack Obama is a Muslim. I should be surprised that 77 percent of Texans don’t. Then again, I’m sure a great many of them don’t even know what being a Muslim actually means.
Speaking to a crowd in North Carolina today, Barack Obama made light of John McCain’s ridiculous clams that Obama is a socialist. Does anyone over in the McCain campaign even know what socialism is? I used to think McCain had some smart people working for him, but that thought went out the window when they chose Sarah Palin as his running-mate.
The McCain volunteer who made up a story about being mugged, beaten, and carved on by an angry black male Obama supporter is in police custody. Ashley Todd, 20, admitted to police that she made the story up.
She claims she doesn’t know how she got the backwards letter “B” etched on her face. She told police that she has mental problems and “sometimes forgets”. She also told police it was not politically motivated.
