Danica Patrick wins the pole at the Daytona 500

For the first time ever, a woman will be starting the Daytona 500 up front in the first position. Danica Patrick won the pole yesterday with the top lap speed, 196.434 mph to be exact. That’s fast.

Jeff Gordon finished with the second fastest time, 196.292 mph, making him the fasted man yesterday. Both Patrick and Gordon were in the new Chevy SS with Hendrick Motorsports engines. Gordon of course drives for Hendrick Motorsports while Patrick drives for fellow driver and team owner Tony Stewart.

No matter who wins the race this Sunday, it’s still an amazing accomplishment to win the pole for the Daytona 500.
