Dressed in a re-creation of the stylish green skirt-suit worn by the film’s ill-fated heroine in an iconic scene, Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds” Barbie® Doll celebrates the 45th anniversary of the acclaimed film. From the doll’s classic ensemble to the perfectly painted expression to the accompanying black birds, every aspect captures the film’s infamous appeal.

I’m not Jewish, but why should that stop me from celebrating the festival of lights? This snazzy Menorah is made from green circuit board material and each light is a light emitting diode (LED). You select which ones of the individual lights to light up by flipping it’s corresponding DIP switch to the “up” position.
The LED circuit board menorah can be purchased from Fred Flare for $25 (link via Boing Boing).

Do you have some extra light bulbs and some Quikrete Mortar mix sitting around the house? If so, you might want to think about making one of these. It’s a concrete light bulb wall hook. Drive it into a wall stud and you will have a sturdy hook to hang a heavy coat from. Plus, it will look extremely cool.
The creator posted step-by-step, easy to follow instructions over on Instructables. He also posted a link to his website where you can purchase concrete light bulbs already made. The price is $19 plus $6 shipping.

Sheri and I are planning on moving from our third-floor walk-up this coming February. Sometimes I think part of the reason we continue living here is because I am just too lazy to lug everything downstairs and into a moving truck.
This tool will make that task a lot easier. It is called a Strap-A-Handle and it’s available in two lengths, 6-foot and 8-foot.
The hardest part about carrying heavy loads is getting good hand placement. It does not matter how strong you are if you can’t get a good handle on something. This ‘handy’ tool helps to solve that.

Take my word for it. When the zombie apocalypse comes, you are going to wish you had 80 hours of beeswax candle on hand. This is a Coil Candle and it’s sold by Gaiam. I’m not sure how it works exactly, but I think the burner contraption lowers onto the coil as it burns. It’s on sale for a mere $29.99. They also sell beeswax refill coils for only $14.99.
You can expect those prices to drastically increase when the dead walk the earth looking for delicious brains to eat.

I think I first saw this over on Make. It’s a homemade air conditioner. The bucket is filled with ice water and the small electric fan moves air through an aluminum channel running through the bucket, sealed with silicone.
Make sure to check out Franco Normani’s blog Assorted Tips for more photos along with step by step instructions so you can make your own.
I don’t like being hot. In fact, I hate it. Sunday night when the temperature outside was 95 degrees with a humidity level to match, I could have used one of these homemade air conditioners. Our central air just wasn’t getting it done.
I want to make one of these and have it ready to go if needed.

Sheri and I are planning on heading back to California next month and one of the things we plan on doing is visiting Disneyland. One of my favorite rides out there is Space Mountain. I remember back in 1977 when it first opened, the first people to ride it for the first official ride were the surviving Mercury astronauts.
At the time that seemed very cool. Now it seems kind of sad.
Greg Maletic has created a very retro looking Space Mountain poster and made it available on his website. He also made it available for download on his website. There is a 4 x 6 inch PDF version long with a 36 x 54 inch PDF version.

It’s called the Hummer HX Concept vehicle, but it looks remarkably like the Warthog vehicle in the Halo 3 game. Throw a chain gun on the back and it would be a dead ringer.

Video of some brat getting what’s coming to him. I love the fact that there are two adults just watching as a kid attempts to engage in some animal cruelty. I also assume that there is another adult holding the camera. By the looks of the video, it was probably a super 8 movie camera.
Karma’s a bitch.
