We stopped in at Hagerstown’s finest indoor shopping emporium, the Valley Mall, earlier this afternoon. There was a sports card show scheduled this weekend and since I missed most of the offerings at the Maugansville Card Show two weeks ago, I had the audacity to show up an hour and a half before it was scheduled to end, which it turned out, to be when most of the dealers pack up all their junk and prepare to leave, I thought the mall show would be worth checking out.
I didn’t see anything worth getting from any of the card dealers in attendance, but I did see something that got my attention in one of the stores in the mall. It was the display window at Pacsun, a clothing store that caters to teenagers that like to pretend they are surfers. Not only did it draw my attention, I took a picture:
If I was the type of person who allowed myself to become offended over the stupidity of others, this window display would offend me. Someone has taken a California flag and used it as a tablecloth. Shoes have been placed upon the flag. Part of the flag is even touching the ground.
Though I now live in Maryland, I was born and raised in California. It’s the land of my people. Now matter where I live, I will always consider myself a Californian. That’s the flag of my home state, not a tablecloth. I don’t know who thought it was a good idea to drape the flag of California on a table and then place shoes on it, but whoever they are, they’re stupid.
It’s disrespectful and I don’t like it.
