Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable released a statement in an attempt to defend himself against the allegations presented by ESPN’s Outside the Lines that he physically abuses women.
Make no mistake, Cable is a piece of garbage. In his statement concerning the incident with his former wife Sandy Cable, he paints her as an adulterous whore.
From Tom Cable’s statement:
During my first marriage, I became aware that my wife, Sandy, had committed adultery. I became very angry and slapped her with an open hand. What I did was wrong and I have regretted and felt sorrow about that moment ever since.
Sandy Cable denies that she ever committed adultery. She responded to Tom Cable’s accusation with her own statement:
He constantly made accusations throughout the relationship. There was never any infidelity on my part. And he did not slap me, he punched me.
If what Cable is now saying is true, why in a hand written letter to his first wife Sandy Cable did he refer to the incident as “that day I hit you“? If he had slapped her with an open hand, why didn’t he refer it the incident as that in his letter? If he had slapped her with an open hand — and I’m in no way trying to defend that or trivialize even slapping a woman — I have to think he would have said that, not that he hit her. Describing a slap as a hit makes it sound more severe. I would think the only reason he would have described what happened as “that day I hit you” is if he had in fact actually punched her.
My guess is that if this letter from Cable had not been made public by ESPN, he wouldn’t even be admitting to slapping her with an open hand. Then again, as I pointed out in another post, I don’t know a lot about men that hit women.
I think the NFL has a huge problem on their hands. They can get behind Breast Cancer Awareness month by allowing their players to wear pink gloves and shoes, but if they have a head coach that not only abuses women with physical violence, but then tries to defend himself by calling into question his victim’s sexual fidelity, they have a huge problem on their hands. A huge, misogynistic problem that wont go away until Cable is out of the league.

/ November 2, 2009I gotta tell ya Rick, I’m a huge Miami Dolphins fan, but I’ve been losing my interest in the game with all this bullshit involving off-the-field acts. You’ve got the Bengals and their long line of arrests the other year. Larry Johnson of the Chiefs, the homophobe who spits in women’s faces. Randy Starks of the Dolphins who runs into police with flatbed trucks. Marshawn Lynch of the Bills who hits people with his SUV and keeps going. Mike Vick who slaughters animals. Ray Lewis who assists in murders. Etc. It’s beginning to get very hard for me to passionately root for a sport filled with such an increasingly high number of classless individuals.

/ November 2, 2009I couldn’t agree more. I don’t know what bothers me more- the actual acts by the players and/or coaches, or the non-response by the league. Making it worse is considering how the league overreacts to other acts, for instance, the Michael Vick dog killing thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love dogs and do not condone killing them or any other animal for the sake of enjoyment, but Tom Cable broke a man’s jaw and the league did NOTHING. Who cares if the DA decided not to file charges? That doesn’t change the fact that Randy Hanson got a broken jaw because of Cable.

/ November 2, 2009I’m hoping something happens now as a result of the ESPN report regarding Cable’s history of violence against women.
Adam
/ November 2, 2009OK…first of all it is pretty assumptious to say that him referring to a hit means it must have been a punch. Hit is so clearly ambiguous because both a punch and a slap are “hits”. Its just a shame he wasn’t more specific by saying slap or punch. So we have no real idea from that. Second of all I find it hard to 100% trust these women making these accusations now 10-20 years after the fact. They seem to be clearly taking advantage of the ability to be on TV to make him look worse than he may be due to what happened recently with his coworker. Obviously domestic violence is a terrible terrible thing that i hate, and Cable is at least somewhat proven to be somewhat abusive in the past. But I just find all this new testimony to be a result of the recent activities of Cable and are only taking place as some sort of fucked up revenge scheme to fuck up his career. Women should be taught and encouraged to deal with these things at the moment they occur. Not 20 years later.

/ November 2, 2009umm ok let it be known that its hard to take league action against a man who has not been proven by the American Judicial system to be guilty of maliciously breaking a mans jaw. That is because tho he may have been violent towards him. There was no evidence that he INTENDED to beak the mans jaw. Vick was a thug scumbag who knew about and possibly participated in the allowing of dogfighting and the brutal killing of dogs by drowning, shocking, shooting, hanging, etc. So there is a clear difference there. If get in a confrontation and push a guy who trips over something and breaks his nose or jaw or whatever, I clearly had no intent and it was just a bad result of a silly or heated confrontation. Just cuz someone is injured it doesnt mean legal action and punishment MUST be had. So chill…

/ November 2, 2009They’re not making them 10-20 years later, they’re REtelling their incidents 10-20 years later. And stop with the slap/punch bullshit, he assaulted multiple women and that’s that. I don’t give a fuck if he struck them with closed or open hands, YOU DO NOT ASSAULT WOMEN, bottom line. Get off his dick.
Here’s alittle reading you can do
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4613549
Let me outline some statements for you:
“In 1989, Sandy Cable sought a temporary order of protection, which said, in part, “On two occasions, one back in ‘86 and the other in ‘88, he hit me. The second time in the face, however on attempts to call law enforcement, my husband would rip the phone out of the wall.”"
“A third woman, Cable’s second wife Glenda, said in documents related to the couple’s 2008 divorce that “in the past he has been physically and verbally abusive to me.” Glenda and Tom Cable were married for 17 years. She declined to speak to “Outside The Lines”, but is currently receiving support payments from Cable.”
Note that both documented cases occured PRIOR to his attacking the assistant coach. As his first wife Sandy stated in an interview, she’s come forward once again so as he may finally seek help for his emotional problems.

/ November 2, 2009Ryan, I was going to respond to some of Adam’s points, but then I read all the other comments he left today and I realized that he’s an idiot. :)
Adam
/ November 2, 2009And you call that commentator ignorant for the taco comment. You fail to realize your own ignorance buddy :) sweet smiley
Adam
/ November 2, 2009God forbid she find a fucking phone outside her own home man. Thats quite a crazy idea I know. And that divorce is not someone coming out publicly. Divorce is quite private and it has been till now. I clearly dont like or support people who abuse women, but I do know that it is as easy to manipulate as rape. And I happen to know people who were falsely accused of rape because of bullshit emotions of fucked up women. I only mentioned the slap/punch bullshit cuz Rick the Dick mentioned it and was making such a big deal about him saying the word HIT in a letter MUST have meant a punch. As i have read a few of his posts now I can see that Dick sure does like to jump to irrational conclusions. Keep up the good work Ryan and Dick. Really thinkin outside the box here. Have fun suckin each others dicks :) I forgot how cool smileys are.
Adam
/ November 2, 2009But hey Rick thanks for taking the easy way out and ignoring my comments. I may be abrasive in what I think and say, but I mean what I say and you could at least be man enough to fight your own battles and respond with your own thoughts. I just like a good debate. So tell me what you think. Dont let your boyfriends do all the speakin for ya bud. Im sure you have a pair right?
Rick Rottman
/ November 2, 2009Thanks for the kind words Adam. It means a lot to me to have your support.

/ November 2, 2009Any time bud. I do what I can. Still waiting for your reply argument. Will I be waiting in vain? haha
