Madelyn Dunham, Barack Obama’s 85-year old grandmother, is extremely ill. Because of the seriousness of her condition, Obama has canceled his appearances for the next two days and has returned to the radical Islamic jungles of Hawaii to be with her.
Both of Obama’s parents are dead. He barely knew his father. He was raised by his grandparents from the age of 10 until he left for college. To say that his grandmother is an important person in his life is an extreme understatement.
I can’t imagine what Obama is going through right now. The next two weeks will undoubtedly be the most stressful two weeks he has ever faced. To add an ailing loved one into the mix seems almost unimaginable. [New York Times]
