Maybe this is why the Fourth Estate doesn’t like to actually do it’s job. They might just get arrested for it. From ABC News:
Police in Denver arrested an ABC News producer today as he and a camera crew were attempting to take pictures on a public sidewalk of Democratic senators and VIP donors leaving a private meeting at the Brown Palace Hotel.
This isn’t China, it’s the United State of America.

/ August 28, 2008There was a story about this kind of behavior by the Denver police on Democracy Now the other day, too. Apparently the riot cops they have deployed to control the almost entirely peaceful protestors aren’t wearing identification, which is illegal. Watchdog groups have brought this up to the Denver Police Department, and apparently one excuse offered was that the name plates must have fallen off the brand new uniforms.
This, in addition to shooing protestors out of public areas and banning the press from several hush-hush super-secret private parties. I’d say it’s not the best image for the Democrats to project leading up to their guy’s big speech, but the last few elections this has become standard operating procedure.
At least they give ‘em a free speech zone. It’s even guarded by armed police and surrounded by chainlink and barbed wire, so nobody gets hurt!
