Bent Corner

Blogging from Williamsport, Maryland so you don't have to.

It turns out that it was GoDaddy the sucked with the intensity of 1,000 suns

I was having problems with my blog, Bent Corner. I originally blamed the problems on WordPress. I’ve since come to the conclusion that the problem(s) didn’t have anything to do with WordPress, but with my hosting site, GoDaddy.

Forget every bad thing I’ve ever said about WordPress.

My blog went down shortly before leaving for a week long vacation to the land of my people, California. To be honest, I took it as a sign. I made the conscious decision to not fool with it while back home.

I figured I needed a break.

Upon returning to Maryland, I tried reinstalling WordPress. That didn’t fix it. In fact, it made my problems even worse. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a MySQL database problem on GoDaddy. Not that I know anything about MySQL databases. I just know when something doesn’t work like it’s supposed to. Like my blog.

GoDaddy sucks. I don’t know why I ever moved my blog over to GoDaddy. I was under the impression that it was a good hosting provider. It’s the complete opposite. Just getting around the site is an ordeal. The interface is designed not on efficiency or ergonomics, but on exposing users such as myself to as much GoDaddy crap advertisements as humanly possible. Go on the GoDaddy website and expect to be told over and over that GoDaddy can save money by purchasing yet another add-on service.

If I have to look at one more photo of Danica Patrick or Dale Earnhardt Jr, I’m going to throw something.

I’ve since moved my blog over to another hosting provider. One not called GoDaddy. I was able move all of my posts over, but not any of the images associated with any of the posts. I need to physically add them. I could take a while.

  1. Awesome…well, not about GoDaddy (they host my site) but the news that you’ll be back.

  2. I was starting to worry, because I noticed a long lapse since your last appearance on Xbox Live, as well. Good to see you up and running again.

Glad you are back. I sympathize. I went through a similar thing awhile back. At least you were on vacation when it happened! LOL

  4. Was your email hooked up by GOdaddy, too? I sent you an email earlier in the week, and it bounced back.

Thanks Jen. If you get to the point that you feel the need to switch to a different hosting provider, I recommend AQHost.com. I should have realized my problems were related to GoDaddy and not WordPress a long time ago.

Did you send it to a @bentcorner.com email address? The thing is, I never could get that mailserver provided by GoDaddy to work. I put a lot of time into it, but then just gave up. I prefer using GMail mail anyway.

I don’t think I even have an XBox Live account anymore. That is, I can’t go online and serve as target practice for the 13 kiddies anymore. I can go online and download demos, but mostly what I’ve been doing with my XBox is playing Tetris and watching TV shows from bittorrent.

  8. Glad to see the blog back on its feet. I was starting to wonder if you had sold the domain and pulled up stakes for Alaska, America’s last frontier.

They have caribou up there, I hear tell.

I’ve been to Alaska. I never left the airport. I had an egg roll and a beer. I looked at a stuffed polar bear. Good times!

  10. Egg rolls, beer and stuffed polar bears? It truly is the Great Land!
