This is what happens when an Australian General Dynamics F-111 hits a 30 lb pelican at 340 mph. Ouch!
When I was stationed in the Philippines and assigned to the 3rd Tac Fighter Wing and on a deployment to Korea, we had one of our F-4E’s hit by a goose. Maybe it was a duck. I don’t remember. I’m supporised there was even enough of it afterwards to make any kind of identification. It hit the aircraft between the port intake and the fuselage. It ripped a hole right through the aircraft. The aircrew was able to bring the F-4 back, but I don’t think it ever flew again. Maybe it did. I don’t remember. I just remember the carnage.

The F-111 is one of my favorite aircraft. It’s a shame that there is only one country left flying them. I guess I’ll have to take a trip Down Under if I ever want to see one again.
I got to check out an EF-111 while stationed in the PI. It was parked in the hanger next to the one our shop was located in. It was pretty sweet. It looked better in the blue-gray paint scheme.
I saw an Australian F-111 do a fly over at an airshow when I was stationed on Guam. It shot fuel out it’s ass and then hit the afterburner. It made quite a sight. From what I was told by other people watching, F-111’s are famous for that little trick.
Yeah, the “dump and burn.” I’ve never seen it live, but I’ve seen pics and video. Pretty damn cool.
Is it only the FB-111 that does the “dump and burn”? I’ve never seen any other aircraft do that. At least not on purpose.
I’m not sure- I know the FB-111 was slightly bigger than the F-111, with slightly longer wingspan, but I really don’t know much else about the physical differences.
