Michelle Obama puts her unpatriotic foot in her mouth
Michelle Obama speaking at a rally in Milwaukee said:
“Hope is making a comeback and, let me tell you, for the first time in my adult life I am really proud of my country. Not just because Barack is doing well, but I think people are hungry for change.”
Way to perpetuate the myth that Democrats don’t love their country. This was an incredibly dumb thing to say.
Why do candidates even send their spouses out on the campaign trial? Nothing good can come from it. I can guarantee you that nobody votes for a candidate because of something their spouse said during the campaign. No good can come out of a spouse speaking on the campaign trail. Look at all the grief Bill is causing Hillary. It’s almost as though Bill is trying to tank it for her.
Maybe Michelle Obama doesn’t want to be the First Lady.

I don’t think she would have said that if she didn’t think there were a lot of Americans who felt the very same way. Patriotism is not something to take for granted any more. If the last eight years have taught America anything, it’s that sometimes it’s socially acceptable to be exasperated (if not disgusted) with one’s own country.
Oh damn, I think I just ruined my fiance’s chances of being elected.
What she said wasn’t unpatriotic. She said she wasn’t proud of her country, that’s not the same thing as not loving it. Plenty of people aren’t proud of their children, but they still love them.
I have no problem with what she said except she wants to be the First Lady. It think a 43 year old woman that says this is the first time she’s been proud of her country has no business being the First Lady.
I think she has issues.
To use your analogy, it would be like a parent saying that they’ve never been proud of their child until now. Not only would that be a strange statement to make, I think it would rule them out for a Parent of the Year award.
Yes, most people do have a hard time dealing with reality.
