DC Comics to publish Starman Omnibus
From the press release:
STARMAN, the acclaimed DC Universe series created by writer James Robinson and artist Tony Harris, will be collected for the first time in hardcover, on high-quality paper, in THE STARMAN OMNIBUS, a series of six volumes beginning in May.
This series will feature new covers by Harris, and will measure 6.75” x 10.25”. Collecting the entire STARMAN series, plus the STARMAN ANNUALS, SECRET FILES, 80-PAGE GIANT, THE SHADE miniseries and much more, these volumes include stories illustrated by Harris, Peter Snejbjerg, Chris Sprouse, J.H. Williams III, Phil Jimenez, Gene Ha, Guy Davis, Teddy Kristiansen, Lee Weeks and many others, as well as several stories co-written by David Goyer.
Scheduled to reach stores in May, THE STARMAN OMNIBUS VOL. 1 HC is a 448 page title collecting STARMAN #0 and 1-16, with a cover price of $49.99 U.S.
I’ve been interested in reading this, but the third trade paperback in the series has been out of print and is extremely hard to come by. Amazon is pre-selling it for $31.49 plus another 5% if you place your order before it’s released.

I’ve read the first two or three collections, and have about the first five or six. I could never bring myself to finish them… it’s pretty boring. I always mean to go back to it, but so far lack the motivation. Maybe one giant edition would make it easier to get through.
Highly recommended. Starman is one of the best experiences of my lifetime of comics reading. “Boring”? Whatever…I guess you can’t please everyone.
By the way, I like the new look for your blog.
Mark, I’ve always wanted to read it, but the fact that volume #3 was severely OOP always stopped me.
As far as Sloofus saying it was boring is concerned, I have to give it a lot of credibility. If you’ve ever listened to his award winning podcast, you would know that he reads a LOT of really bad comics. Him saying that something was boring carries a lot of weight with me.
Well, if great character development, smart dialogue, and a surprisingly grown-up take on DC’s rich history is considered “boring”, I guess there are countless other hyperactive beat-em-ups for guys like DJ.
Still….I’d give it a shot if I were you, Rick. It’s some of the best stuff ever done, in my humble opinion.
Mark:
Try to lose the attitude. Why take a shot at me and imply that I only enjoy hyperactive beat-em ups? That’s like me assuming you only eat pancakes.
Relax, DJ. If we’re going to get into the subatomic parsing of implied insults, I suppose I could also take offense at your implication that I’m “boring” for liking a “boring” series like Starman.
But I won’t…because that would be silly.
Why don’t you both shut the fuck up? All comics suck.
Anyway, I heard that there’s a starman, waiting in the sky. He’d like to come and meet us, but he thinks he’d blow our minds.
I never said people who read Starman are boring. I read it myself, which you don’t need to rely on subatomic parsing to ascertain. And sorry to bruise your ego, but I wasn’t talking to (or about) you in the first place. I really have no idea what you have or have not read, or even who the hell you are in the first place. Nonetheless, apology accepted!
Geez guys, I realized that my post saying I was going to get the Starman Omnibus was provocative. I also realized there was a possibility it would create some controversy. I just didn’t realize that it would result in a massive flame war. I’m just glad that you guys could work it out.
“I really have no idea what you have or have not read, or even who the hell you are in the first place.”
I wasn’t aware you had to know “who the hell” we are to have an opinion on your opinion, DJ. Geez, as a self-described “Comic Book Hater”, you’ve got a remarkably thin skin yourself.
Mark, Sloofus, please … it breaks my heart to see two people I don’t know at all sniping at each other like this. If comic books have taught us nothing else, have not they at least taught us that the only path in life truly worth walking is the path of love?
Don’t ask me which comic I get that from. I was just saying.
I am a comic book hater; not a human being hater. Your harsh words cause my tears to cry.
Listen, I’m not in the business of trying to determine who is or isn’t an infected cum bubble.
But I do know one when I see one, Mark.
You do realize that you are the one that took offense to what was said even though it was simply the opinion of one person. Talk about thin-skinned.
Mark, I think you put it best when you said “Whatever…I guess you can’t please everyone.” One person is allowed to like something that you don’t and vice versa.
You don’t have to start frothing at the mouth like a rabid asshat, you shit-streaker.
I also meant to add that this is the type of behavior that turns scads of people away from comics- rampant fanboyism. You shit-streaker.
Mark, I’m sorry I’m all the time mean to you. I also accept your apology.
But I might not remember all this because I’m pretty loaded right now.
