I’m glad I don’t have to explain this
It seems Egypt is pursuing a nuclear power program and that’s ok with the Bush Administration. So says White House spokesman Dana Perino. She pointed out that the United States is supportive of countries pursuing civil nuclear energy because it’s clean burning and because it provides electricity in a clean-burning and affordable way.
Except if it’s the Iranians.
President Bush has made references to World War III if and when Iran develops a nuclear power program. The idea is that Iran having nuclear power will be a threat to Israel. Iranian President Ahmadinejad has questioned the historical accuracy of the holocaust and has said that Israel should be wiped off the map. At least that is what he supposedly said. I don’t speak Farsi.
Some may talk about wiping Israel off the map, but Egypt has actually tried. More then once. In fact, the United States pays Egypt over $2 billion a year for the assurance that they won’t try to wipe Israel off the map anymore.
And it’s ok with the Bush Administration if Egypt goes nuclear?

I don’t recall any official government leaders publically calling for the destruction of Israel, or that Israel would "burn in the fire of the Islamic nations’ fury".
But in the relativistic world of liberal America, I guess that’s a non-factor.
Mark, have you ever heard Ahmadinejad say this? I’m not saying that he didn’t ever say it, I’m just starting to realize that I cannot trust much of what I’m told about the Middle East. I was told that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and that we would be greeted as liberators in Iraq. Things that turned out to be not true.
I do know that Egypt has actually tried to destroy Israel many, many times. They haven’t just made ridiculous comments like that idiot Ahmadinejad supposedly has made.
Egypt has actually attacked Israel with their military.
Currently we have to pay Egypt over $2 Billion a year NOT to attack Israel. How much will that price go up if and when Egypt acquires nuclear weapons? I would imagine the price would only go up.
I agree with you, man. Maybe the guy said it; maybe he didn’t. All I know for certain is that someone else said he said it. I certainly could not disagree more with the alleged statement, but relying on some government translator, or (possibly even) fabricator, might not be the best plan of action.
Who cares what Ahmadinejad says? He’s little more than a figurehead. The actual top authority in the state is Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and his title is Supreme Leader, not President. This fact gets left out of every bone-headed discussion about the "ticking timebomb OH NO RUN!" that is supposedly Iran.
And I’m sure it IS fine with the Bush administration if Egypt goes nuclear. We have to stay on Egypt’s good side at all costs, or they won’t let us ship prisoners there to be tortured anymore.
Yes, it gets very confusing. Take Pakistan for instance. It’s evidently okay for Pakistan to not only have nuclear power, but to have nuclear weapons.
Each and every 911 hijacker traveled in and out of Pakistan on their way to al-Qaeda terrorist training camps. Bin Laden is most likely holed up somewhere in the mountains of Pakistan.
I feel sorry for kids 100 years from now trying to learn this part of history. How confusing it will all be. America is attacked by a Saudi terrorist and it responds by invading Iraq. The nation of Iran pursues nuclear power and America threatens to start World War III. How are kids in the future going to be able to figure this whole thing out? The ironic part is their taxes will be paying for the wars Bush starts.
It’s not that hard to figure out. Even though all of the examples already mentioned are countries where you probably wouldn’t want nukes, Iran is far more dangerous. They admittedly have state sponsored terrorists. I’m not sure anyone else has admitted to that. And the religious zealotry in Iran surpasses any of those other countries.
Religious zealots and nukes should never mix.
Also, the other countries you mentioned all have decent relationships with the US. Why would we want an enemy nation to get nuclear weapons? Does that make any sense?
In a perfect world, nobody would have nuclear weapons. If pursuing nuclear power is the same thing as pursuing nuclear weapons, that would mean Egypt is also pursuing nuclear weapons. Iran may (or may not be) our enemy, but the U.S. currently pays Egypt over $2 billion a year NOT to attack Israel.
I don’t think Bush is threatening World War III over Egypt pursuing nuclear technology. He is when it comes to Iran pursuing nuclear technology.
Yeah, but Egypt doesn’t want to use them against the U.S.
